"I worked 27 years around the compactor," says Keith Kropf, field technician. "And I've never seen a boat crushed." Well there's always a first time.

Here's one solution to the boat recycling question: the boat crusher. Only problem is whether it will fit inside the machine. This particular boat had to be "customized" before it would fit into a box that looks a lot like a reinforced container. Sledgehammers didn't work, so they had to get out the portable saw and shave off the rails. Once it was skinny enough, the machine took over. There's even a view from inside.

I have to admit this video makes me a little sad. But there are lots of old, abandoned fiberglass boats lying around that are not going to rot, so this is one solution.
